No, I don't mean like the racing games and skeeball. I'm talking about claw machines and the millions of other "games" where you can win prizes. These can range from a stuffed animal to a PS4 and a Rolex.
These games are specifically designed to make you lose so that you'll pour more money in until you win. These games aren't even fun and they just completely waste all of your money. I remember when I was a kid I would always go to the arcade at the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ. I spent HOURS with every last quarter my mom gave me to try and win a huge stuffed animal from a claw game. The crane would wrap around the giant dog, but would lightly graze it as it lifted up, not even moving it. My chances weren't going up, and my efforts were useless.
I remember being in an arcade at the Sands casino arcade when I was younger, and my friend and I were playing this game where you had to stop the key so it could go into a hole and turn so it can pull the prize out. We watched this game closely. If you stop it right where it needed to be, it would move up or down just enough for you to miss the hole, and that Amazon gift card would be just out of your grasp. This would make anyone else say, "Wow, I was so close! One more try and I'll get it!" It was a fruitless effort.
The only saving grace of the arcades are the actual fun games, like the racing machines or pinball. Games you know you will enjoy when you put your money in. Not the machines designed for your child to develop a gambling addiction.
